Yes its that time of year again, the Manly Environment Centre’s Eco Awards are fast approaching. The presentation is to be at Manly Sea Life Sanctuary (Oceanworld) on the 30th March 2017.
If you wish to nominate someone for outstanding environmental work or achievement for our community, download a nomination form from the MEC website or from here. Note nomination forms must be submitted by the 22nd March. (Note revised closing date.)
Back in 2006, local community artist Marty Cullen came up with the concept of the Manly Environment Centre Eco Awards as a way to celebrate the MEC's birthday in March each year. |
Trip to see the Egyptian Mummies at the Powerhouse - 11th April 2017 |

The Manly Art Gallery and Musuem Society presents Egyptian Mummies at the Powerhouse Museum - an organised bus trip for gallery Society members (and all interested residents) to be taken to the museum to see this interesting exhibition.
Our bus departs from West Esplanade tourist coach stop at 9:30am on 11th April. Tickets are fully inclusive of all travel, museum entry and include a picnic lunch.

Manly-Warringah Choir presents Brahms: A German Requiem - a Concert with choir, orchestra and soloists conducted by Carlos Alvarado. At 7:30pm on 6th May at Cardinal Cerretti Chapel, Darley Road Manly.

The Manly2015 scheme - Mk3b web pages or Mk2b web site. They detail the various projects for reference, as at May 2016 and February 2015 respectively. (links)
The key issues of objection concerning the proposed projects to relocate the Whistler Street car park were :-
- the use of the public Oval reserve for a commercial car park, together with the visual and physical impact on Ivanhoe Park; and
- the construction of a massive new building in Whistler Street that would exceed Council's planning controls and would set a development precedent for the Manly CBD.
The relocation project has now been cancelled by Council, but only time will tell if the project is really dead.
The inclusion of links to the Manly2015 scheme should not be taken as any endosement of the proposed Whistler Street car park relocation and redevelopment. While the Manly2015 plaza and repaving works were generally supported by residents and businesses alike, the car park projects were contraversial and divided the Manly community. |

Local Government Boundaries Commission Pittwater Public Inquiry Report issued on 26th April 1991. (5.45MB) This outlines the comprehensive examination into the need and feasibilty of establishing a separate Pittwater Council out of (then) Warringah Council's "A" Riding. This investigation, and the subsequent passing of a referendum within the Pittwater area, eventually lead to the establishment of Pittwater Council on 1st May 1992.
The actual report consists of the first 23 pages, and the rest of the document contains the submissions received. Submission 1, commencing on page 69, is particularly worth reading. It has also been suggested that the 1991 report makes the recent pro-Amalgamation reviews look shallow, unsound and even unprofessional, as regards a proper consideration of the issues involved.

Eco-Sculpture Walk Brochure 2002 (694K) Gain an insight into Cabbage Tree Bay's unique marine life, plants, animals, history and attractions by viewing some unique eco-sculptures. To get there simply
walk along Marine Parade from South Steyne Manly, Bower Lane at Fairy Bower or Shelly Beach. Look for the sculptures at the Shelly Beach end of the walkway.
Take this interpretive brochure with you! It describes each sculpture in detail and provides lots of other useful information about the Bay.
The walk is also suitable for people with disabilities of all ages. Disabled parking is available at Shelly Beach. The sculptures and accompanying plaques have also been suitably designed for use by people with vision impairments.

It contains a map showing where all the items are located. Even long standing residents might find some surprises in this brochure! It provides brief infomation on each artwork, including some background about the artists.
